NSA Deputy Director General Fires Back at Critics: “Did Angolans Play in the Sky?”

In a stunning response to Ghanaian football fans’ outrage over the state of the Baba Yara Stadium pitch, National Sports Authority (NSA) Deputy Director General Bawa Majeed has asked a rhetorical question that has left many speechless: “Did the Angolans play in the sky?”

Majeed’s comment came after fans and journalists alike blamed the pitch for Ghana’s shocking 0-1 defeat to Angola in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. But Majeed insists that the pitch was not the problem, pointing out that it had been approved by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and that both teams played on the same surface.

“Are they suggesting that the Angolans were playing in the sky?” Majeed asked in an interview with Asempa FM. “They are all footballers, professionals who played on the same pitch. Let’s focus on what really went wrong.”

Majeed believes that the blame lies with the technical team, who failed to make timely substitutions during the game. “We all suspected that changes needed to be made, even the fans were calling for it in the 60th minute,” he said.

As Ghana prepares to face Niger in their next group game on September 9, Majeed’s comments have sparked a heated debate about the state of the pitch and the team’s performance. One thing is certain, however: the NSA is not taking the blame for the Black Stars’ defeat lying down.
