North Tongu DCE commends Girls-in-ICT programme, tours local training centres

Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of North Tongu, has lauded the ongoing “Girls-in-ICT” training programme as transformative and strategic intervention that is equipping young girls with critical digital competencies needed to thrive in the evolving technological landscape.
Madam Doe undertook a working visit to three Girls-in-ICT training centres, Mepe St. Kizito, Volo Community Day Senior High School, and Dorfor Senior High School, to engage with participants and observe the programme’s implementation at firsthand.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, targets upper primary and junior high school students, with a total of 68 girls from Primary 6 to JHS 2 and six ICT teachers currently benefiting from the programme in the North Tongu District.

At each centre, the DCE interacted with the students and instructors, commending their enthusiasm and dedication.
She emphasized the importance of ensuring equitable access to digital education for girls, particularly in underserved communities.
“It was deeply inspiring to witness the passion, curiosity, and determination of these young girls. They are not only learning how to code—they are being prepared to lead in a digital future,” she stated.
“As a district, we remain fully committed to supporting initiatives that empower our youth, especially girls, with the skills and confidence needed to succeed in the technology-driven economy.”
The visit was marked by a special engagement at Dorfor SHS in Juapong, where the DCE and her delegation were joined by the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, and his team.
Mr Gunu provided additional encouragement to the students and underscored his office’s support for digital education initiatives.
He pledged to work closely with the Ministry and other development partners to scale up the programme and ensure that no girl was left behind in the digital transformation agenda.
The students unanimously expressed gratitude to the government and pledged to take full advantage of the initiative for digital educational transformation.
