In a significant move to address outstanding claims, the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has released GH¢800 million to healthcare facilities nationwide. This substantial release bridges the debt gap and reinforces NHIA’s commitment to a robust and efficient healthcare system.
Timely Payments for Enhanced Care
According to Dr. Da-Costa Aboagye, NHIA’s Chief Executive, the payment is crucial for enhancing the quality of care provided to NHIS members and supporting the operational needs of healthcare facilities. The authority aims to ensure that outstanding payments are made within the agreed three-month reimbursement period.
Previous Disbursements
This latest release follows a series of previous disbursements, including:
– GH¢300 million in January 2024 to cover claims up to January 2024
– GH¢151 million on August 17, 2024, to cover claims from March 2024 for higher-tier healthcare providers
– GH¢135.6 million in July 2024 to settle claims up to February 2024 for higher-tier providers
– Over GH¢170 million on April 30, 2024, to cover claims for lower-tier facilities
– GH¢180 million on March 22, 2024, to various healthcare providers
– Over GH¢130 million on February 13, 2024, to 4,850 healthcare providers nationwide

Comprehensive Coverage
The NHIS Benefit Package covers over 95% of disease conditions affecting residents, including over 550 formulations on the NHIS medicines list, ensuring comprehensive coverage for all diseases under the scheme.
