Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has been named the Premier League Player of the Month for December. Isak won the award for the first time after a string of prolific performances for the Magpies.
The Swedish striker was the Premier League’s top scorer in December, scoring eight goals in just six appearances. He scored in each of Newcastle’s six games during the month.
Isak’s comeback included a hat-trick against Ipswich Town and crucial goals in wins over Aston Villa and Manchester United. His form has helped Newcastle return to the race for Champions League qualification.
The 25-year-old is the fourth Swedish player to win the award. He succeeds Freddie Ljungberg for Arsenal in April 2002, Johan Elmander for Bolton Wanderers in November 2010 and Zlatan Ibrahimovic for Manchester United in December 2016.
