Reverend Emmanuel Opoku Mensah has launched two Christian books intended to offer a biblical response and practical guidance to young people struggling with sports betting and gaming addiction.
The books, titled “The Trend of Sports Betting and Gaming Among the Youth: A Christian Apologetics Response” and “150 Godly Golden Quotes on Sports Betting,” were launched in Accra on Sunday.
Speaking at the event, Rev. Opoku Mensah, Resident Minister of the Caprice Worship Centre and Youth Pastor for the La Area, said the works were inspired by a pastoral burden after witnessing the effects of gambling on young people.
“I have sat with young men who had brilliant futures ahead of them, only to watch those futures crumble under the weight of gambling addiction. These are not statistics to me. They are faces. They are names,” he said.

Rev. Mensah described the spread of betting centres as a crisis, noting that some university students were using school fees to place bets, while others had turned to theft to sustain the habit.
“When a personal choice begins to destroy an entire generation, it ceases to be merely personality becomes a crisis that demands a prophetic voice,” he stated.
Rev. Mensah called on parents to be vigilant, church leaders to address the issue openly and create safe spaces for confession, and policymakers to regulate the marketing of betting to vulnerable youth.
The books examine addiction and its progression, offering a biblical perspective on stewardship and self‑control and arguing that gambling reflects poor management of God‑given resources and a lack of trust in divine provision.
They outline practical steps toward recovery, emphasising acknowledgment, confession, spiritual discipline and community support.
The publications are expected to serve as resources for church leaders, youth workers, parents and individuals seeking to understand and address the growing influence of sports betting.
