Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, the Vice Presidential Candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has slammed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for their inconsistent stance on the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy. Speaking at a campaign rally in Asante Mampong, Ashanti Region, Dr. Prempeh pointed out that NDC members who initially opposed the policy are now benefiting from it by sending their children to government schools.
“The NDC’s lack of foresight and failure to live up to expectations prove that the NPP should continue leading Ghana,” Dr. Prempeh emphasized. He urged residents to vote for the NPP in the 2024 polls to protect the free SHS policy, warning that an NDC victory would collapse the program and bring severe hardship to parents.
The NDC’s stance on free SHS has been inconsistent, with some members opposing the policy and others claiming they are not anti-free SHS. For instance, some NDC members have ridiculed the policy, only to later promise to review it. This change in tune has raised concerns about the NDC’s motives and ability to lead Ghana.
Dr. Prempeh’s statements are likely to resonate with voters seeking a party with a proven track record of development and progress. As the election season heats up, the NPP’s commitment to education and progress will be a key factor in swaying voters.
