A group of passionate National Democratic Congress (NDC) Youth Wing members, under the banner of the Operation Recover All Loot Brigade (ORAL), is taking a bold stand against alleged financial misconduct in Ghana’s government. They have announced plans to stage a demonstration at the Finance Ministry on September 4, 2024, to demand transparency and accountability in the handling of public funds.
The group has highlighted several suspicious deals, including the controversial US$34.9 million Ambulance Spare Parts contract, the GRA-SML deal, and expenditures related to the All-African Games. They are particularly outraged by the government’s handling of the national ambulance deal, alleging a lack of transparency and potential cost inflation.
Convenor Lawyer Osman Ayariga emphasized that the picketing at the Finance Ministry is just the beginning of a series of protests planned at various public offices to demand immediate action on financial improprieties. “We will continue to occupy and picket government establishments suspected of corruption until our demands are met,” he warned.
The group’s ultimate goal is to restore public confidence in the financial management system and reinforce the principles of integrity and transparency in managing public resources. They are demanding a thorough investigation into these transactions to ensure that public funds were used appropriately and are calling for the recovery of funds allegedly misappropriated in questionable transactions.
On September 4, the ORAL Brigade will assemble at the Ministry of Finance to voice their demands and ensure their concerns are heard. Will the government listen? Only time will tell.
