Former Majority Leader and MP for Suame, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has acknowledged that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) stands a strong chance of winning the December 7, 2024, elections if they secure at least 30% of the votes in the Ashanti Region.
According to him, the strategic importance of the Ashanti Region to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and expressed concerns about the NDC’s efforts to increase their vote share in the region.
“Where your property is, that is where your heart is. NPP’s heart is in the Ashanti Region because it consistently delivers a significant portion of our votes,” he said.
He explained that while the NDC traditionally dominates the Volta Region, they still receive substantial votes from the Ashanti Region despite not winning there outright.
“The NDC often aims to secure 30% of the votes in the Ashanti Region. If they achieve this, it’s a done deal for them. The NPP should forget about the election,” Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu warned.
He emphasized the NPP’s focus on intensifying their campaign in the region to prevent this scenario, underscoring the region’s critical role in determining the election outcome.
