Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah Nketiah, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC),has reaffirmed the party’s position on its decision to restructure its parliamentary leadership, overlooking condemnation of the move.
Earlier this year, the party replaced Tamale South MP Haruna Iddrisu, Ketu North MP James Klutse Avedzi and Asawase MP Muntaka Mubarak as the minority leader, deputy minority chairman and party leader respectively.
The move drawn mixed reactions, with some describing it as untimely given the anticipated 2024 general elections.
Asiedu Nketiah defended the leadership restructuring as a planned move aimed at improving the party’s performance in Parliament during an engagement with their supporters in Ajumako Enyan Essiam in the Central Region.
Despite the initial negative reactions, Asiedu Nketiah maintained that the leadership restructuring had yielded positive results for the party.
“When we made the changes in Parliament, did you see the criticism that followed? Everyone attacked me. But we continued because we saw something better in the new leaders. If you were to fire the new leaders we appointed, would you? I know you wouldn’t, because they tried.” “We thank God for opening our eyes. The former leaders did their part, but it was a relay race. When an athlete is tired, he passes the baton.
“So we passed the baton to Ato Forson and he did not disappoint. We have no regrets either. He made the party more attractive,” he said.
