Ahead of the 2024 General elections, the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has found out that education, job opportunities, and healthcare are the primary issues for voters.
The most recent report from the NCCE indicates that a significant number of voters are especially concerned about the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, with younger voters showing a growing interest in job opportunities. During the report’s launch, Dr. Henrietta Sarpong, the NCCE’s Director of Research, Monitoring, and Evaluation, highlighted that these topics remain important priorities for the public.
She remarked that the ongoing issues in these areas are concerning, as they indicate the electorate’s continuous dissatisfaction and demand for better policies and services.
Education, employment, health, roads and infrastructure, and economic matters were the five most pressing issues identified, followed by other mid-level concerns, with sports and climate change also being mentioned.”
In various regions, four of them reflect the same concerns as the national level, particularly in Ashanti, Central, and Savannah. The remaining regions have different top issues. When it comes to gender, the graph shows that women and females are particularly focused on addressing the top five issues related to education, employment, and health.
“In terms of roads and infrastructure, men show a strong interest. However, when it comes to economic matters and inflation, there are more women engaged than men. We also look at different age groups and observe that those aged 20 to 39 are particularly involved.
“I understand that this age group has the largest population, but generally, those who are in the workforce are very attentive to these issues,” she noted.
