NCCE Director Urges Political Parties to Champion Peace

As Ghana prepares for the 2024 elections, the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) is calling on political parties to prioritize peace and unity. At a recent inter-party dialogue committee inauguration, Krowor Municipal Director Wilhelmina Nancy Adu-Asamoah emphasized the crucial role party leaders play in shaping their followers’ behavior.

“Politicians and youth must advise and serve as ambassadors to protect the country’s peace,” Adu-Asamoah stressed. “Leaders should promote dialogue on peace, educate their members, and model respectful behavior to consolidate Ghana’s democratic gains.”

The meeting brought together 30 constituency party leaders from various parties, including the New Patriotic Party (NPP), National Democratic Congress (NDC), and Ghana Union Movement (GUM). Key issues discussed included:

– Money in politics
– Misinformation and its consequences
– Religious tolerance
– Electoral offences

Adu-Asamoah highlighted the importance of verifying information sources to combat misinformation. “We misinform people, and it becomes a whole issue in society,” she noted.

Kpeshie Divisional Police Commander Emmanuel Odonkor Baah urged leaders to prioritize Ghana’s interest and use peaceful means to address grievances. “Let’s put the interest of Ghana first above any other interest,” he said.

Chief Imam Mohammed Tijani emphasized the importance of protecting life and property in the constituency. “As believers, protecting life and property must be our utmost priority,” he said.

By working together, Ghana can ensure free and fair elections. The NCCE remains committed to supporting this effort.
