National Service Personnel tour Shai Hills and Adomi Bridge to mark end of Service

National Service personnel attached to the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts (MoTCCA) for the 2024–2025 service year have undertaken an educational tour of the Shai Hills Resource Reserve and the Adomi Bridge.

The excursion, organized to celebrate the completion of their one-year service, aimed to deepen participants’ understanding of Ghana’s rich natural and cultural heritage, while highlighting the role of tourism in national development.

Madam Delassie Mabel Awuku, Head Public Relations, MoTCCA, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said at the Shai Hills Resource Reserve, the group explored the reserve’s diverse wildlife and cultural landmarks.

She said the guided tours offered close-up encounters with ostriches, zebras, antelopes, and monkeys, adding that the personnel also visited Mogo Hill, a culturally significant site once used by the indigenous Shai people for rites of passage.

She noted that the tour guides for the reserve underscored the importance of the reserve in both wildlife conservation and the preservation of indigenous culture.

Madam Awuku said the group also proceeded to the Adomi Bridge in the Eastern Region, where they enjoyed panoramic views of the Volta River and were briefed on the architectural and historical significance of the bridge, one of Ghana’s most iconic infrastructural landmarks.

She indicated that the tour aligned with ongoing initiatives to promote domestic tourism and use it as a vehicle for cultural identity, national pride, and socio-economic growth.

Madam Amen Gbeblewu, NSS Personnel, described the experience as both insightful and enjoyable.

“It was eye-opening to see these places in person. It has given me a deeper appreciation for our heritage,” one participant noted.

Participants also engaged in photo sessions and moments of reflection, marking a memorable end to a year of national service.
