Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) vice presidential candidate, has urged for a peaceful election on December 7 to sustain Ghana’s developmental gains. He emphasized that peace and unity are essential for the country’s progress, and it’s crucial for citizens to commit to peace.
During his campaign tour in the Ahafo Region, Dr. Prempeh met with chiefs, religious leaders, and youth in various constituencies, including Asutifi North, Tano South, and North. He appealed to them to vote for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and encouraged them to protect the peace being enjoyed in the country.
Dr. Prempeh also charged traditional and religious leaders to lead the crusade for peaceful polls and urged the security agencies to act decisively against violent acts. He expressed concern over incidents of violence in the Ahafo enclave, which pose a threat to national peace.
The NPP vice presidential candidate also reconnecting with his roots in Bechem, in the Tano South Constituency, where he was encouraged by the community’s commitment to vote for Dr. Bawumia. He encouraged the community to re-elect the NPP’s Benjamin Yeboah Sekyere to Parliament to support Dr. Bawumia.
Dr. Prempeh emphasized the importance of traditional and religious leaders in ensuring a peaceful election, given their respected positions in society. He also highlighted the NPP’s performance in government, marked by innovation and transformation.
Other NPP officials, including Hon. Kennedy Agyepong and Hon. Freda Prempeh, also campaigned in the region, pledging to create more jobs for the youth and enumerating various developmental projects executed by the party.
The Chief of Yamfo also appealed to political parties to desist from violent activities, especially as electioneering campaigns gather momentum. The NPP’s campaign tour in the Ahafo Region was met with enthusiasm, sending a strong signal of support for Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy.
