The Member of Parliament for Agona West, Cynthia Morrison, has disclosed that she faced repercussions within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for supporting her colleague, Kennedy Agyapong, in the 2023 presidential primaries. Despite the punishment, Morrison maintains that she has no regrets about her decision.
While Morrison did not specify the exact nature of her punishment, she indicated that 80% of the challenges she has faced stem from her backing of Agyapong. She made these remarks during a discussion about her loss of the NPP candidacy for the Agona West seat in the 2024 elections.
In an interview on Adom FM on September 11, 2024, she stated, “After returning from abroad, my constituents urged me to run as an independent candidate. I didn’t have a Bawumia T-shirt because I supported Kennedy Agyapong.”
Morrison explained that her support for Agyapong drew criticism, but she remains unrepentant. “Throughout the campaign, I knew Dr. Bawumia would win, and I was prepared to support him as an NPP member. But others didn’t see it that way, and I had to be punished for my choice. Still, I have no regrets. My support for Kennedy accounted for 80% of my challenges,” she concluded.
