MTN Ghana reaffirms commitment to safeguard staff and customers against cyber threats

MTN Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the protection of its staff, customers, and digital infrastructure against the growing threat of cybercrime, as part of activities marking Cybersecurity Awareness Month.
Madam Jacqueline Hanson Kotei, Senior Manager for Enterprise Information Security and Governance at MTN Ghana, said the company remains resolute in ensuring a secure digital environment for both internal operations and customers who rely on its network and digital services.
Speaking at an engagement with staff of the company on cyber security threats in Kumasi, she emphasised that as digital adoption deepened, protecting individuals, businesses, and children from online scams and fraud had become more critical than ever.
The event, which was on the theme, “Securing our Digital Future,” brought together staff from various departments of the MTN Ghana within the northern sector while others joined virtually.
It featured a panel discussion which provided a platform for some senior managers to engage staff on the importance of being safe in the cyber space.

Madam Kotei said: “We live in an age where fraud and scams are rampant. Even children as young as three are active online, using platforms like TikTok and YouTube. They, too, need protection.”
She said MTN Ghana recognises its dual responsibility of securing the company’s systems internally and protecting its millions of customers from cyberattacks and fraud, particularly through mobile money and digital communication platforms.
She noted that the company continued to roll out extensive public education campaigns such as the “Don’t Share Your PIN” initiative and other awareness drives to sensitise the public.
Madam Kotei also cautioned against oversharing personal information online, noting that one’s “digital footprint” can easily be exploited by cybercriminals.
She revealed that MTN Ghana is implementing targeted cybersecurity education programmes across rural and urban communities, including secondary schools, and in multiple local languages to ensure broad understanding of cyber safety practices.
According to her, the digital landscape was rapidly expanding with the proliferation of smart devices and urged all Ghanaians to become “cybersecurity ambassadors” within their homes and communities.
She commended the National Cybersecurity Authority for its efforts in enhancing national cyber resilience and said MTN Ghana would continue to collaborate with stakeholders to promote a safe and secure digital ecosystem.
