MTN Ghana has as part of ensuring business growth in the country organized a forum dubbed “SME Business Clinic” for the operators in Kumasi.
The event identified about 120 small and medium-sized enterprises to build their capacities in financial management, book-keeping and basics in emerging business technologies.
Mr Mohammed Abubakari-Sidik, Head of SME Sales, MTN Ghana, speaking to pressmen on the sides of the event noted that MTN believed that most of the SMEs in Ghana required periodic business education and exposures to keep them afloat and competitive.
Ghana’s economy, he said, could thrive when these teeming SMEs operated holistically, while addressing occupational challenges.
“We as a company are pleased to build the capacities of these small businesses which are the strong pillars of the economy to compete wherever they find themselves.
We have already organized similar clinics in Accra, Takoradi and Tamale for the same purposes of educating businesses and we hope to do more”, he anticipated.
Mr Abubakari-Sidik said MTN was partnering with Sanlam Allianz to incorporate insurance policies as part of the Clinic.
He said this move was to cushion SMEs when disasters including fire outbreaks occurred, explaining that the days where small businesses failed to insure firms must be over.
The Head of Sales indicated that MTN had identified some businesses’ absence on the web as a big gap to securing funding both locally and internationally.
In this vein, he said, the company has started creating websites for small and medium businesses to help them access international assistance and for recognition.
Participants of the SMEs Business Clinic sharing the impact of the programme said both the practical and theoretical approaches by the MTN team and partners had deepened their operational understanding and would propel them to strategize for business growth.
