Mohammed Kudus: Ghana’s New Captain

Ghana’s head coach, Otto Addo, has made a significant announcement, naming West Ham United’s attacking midfielder, Mohammed Kudus, as the team’s captain for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers against Sudan.

Kudus’ appointment comes in the wake of Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey’s unavailability due to illness. Partey, Ghana’s regular captain, will miss the crucial double-header against Sudan, prompting Coach Addo to entrust Kudus with the leadership role.

The 24-year-old midfielder has been in impressive form for both West Ham United and the Black Stars. His versatility, skill, and goal-scoring ability have made him a vital cog in Ghana’s attack. Kudus’ leadership qualities and experience on the international stage make him an ideal candidate to lead the team.

Ghana faces Sudan in two critical matches:

1. Thursday, October 10, at Accra Sports Stadium (Ghana)
2. October 14 at Martyrs of February Stadium (Libya)

The Black Stars aim to secure a top-two spot in Group F to qualify for the 2025 AFCON tournament, scheduled to take place in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.

Addo expressed confidence in Kudus’ ability to lead the team, stating, “Mohammed is an exceptional player and leader. We trust him to deliver a masterclass performance and guide the team to victory.”

The Black Stars have a rich history in the AFCON tournament, having won the title four times. With Kudus at the helm, Ghana will look to secure a spot in the 2025 tournament and make a deep run.

This appointment marks a significant milestone in Kudus’ career, and Ghanaian fans will be eager to see how he performs in his new role.
