Minority in Parliament condemns NIB’s attempted intimidation of Assin South MP

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority Caucus in Ghana’s Parliament, has condemned the National Investigations Bureau’s (NIB) attempted arrest of Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin South.
The incident occurred in Accra on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at the residence of Rev. Ntim Fordjour, also the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Interior and Defence Committee.
The attempted arrest stemmed from the MP’s allegations about two suspicious flights at the Kotoka International Airport, which he claimed were carrying drugs and cash.

However, the Minority argued that the NIB’s actions were unlawful and politically motivated, aimed at silencing dissent within Parliament.
Addressing the press, Mr Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader, expressed the Caucus’ unwavering support for Rev. Ntim Fordjour and their refusal to be intimidated.
“We stood firm to protect our colleague from what we consider harassment and intimidation,” Mr Afenyo-Markin stated.
He criticised the NIB’s actions, describing them as “an attack on parliamentary oversight and an attempt to suppress voices that raised concerns about national security and accountability.”
Mr Afenyo-Markin emphasised the Minority’s commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability in investigating the allegations made by Rev. Ntum Fordjour.
He stressed that due process must be followed and called on the public to remain alert and support efforts to uphold justice and fairness.
The Minority has therefore demanded a full explanation from the NIB and urged the Speaker of Parliament to intervene to prevent future attempts to target MPs without due process.
The Caucus reaffirmed its commitment to defending democratic principles and urged the public to remain vigilant in upholding the rule of law.
