Michael Oliver to Officiate Chelsea vs Arsenal

The Premier League has confirmed that Michael Oliver will referee Arsenal’s trip to Chelsea on Sunday, his first successful game since Leandro Trossard was sent off during the Gunners’ controversial 2-2 draw with Manchester City.

Oliver joins Stuart Burt and James Mainwaring as assistants, with Andy Madley named as the fourth official. Paul Tierney will be in charge of VAR, assisted by Richard West.

As one of the Premier League’s most respected referees, Oliver was reinstated after Trossard was controversially sent off for kicking the ball after a foul on Bernardo Silva.
While the league’s panel of key incidents from the match was divided over Oliver’s red card. The panel, which reviews all major refereeing decisions in the English Premier League every week, wrote: “Trossard clearly delays the restart from the ball.”

Opinions are not unanimous, however, as one panelist stated that “the split-second duration of the strike was a sufficient mitigating circumstance.”
