MFWA, NMC, and Peace Council Call for Unity Against Hate Speech Ahead of 2024 Elections

 

The Media Foundation for West Africa(MFWA) , the National Media Commission (NMC) and the Peace Council have held a deliberation among political parties and media practitioners over minimizing hate speech and violence during and after the 2024 General elections.

The Deliberation were centered on hate speech ,abusive language and election related violence which averts peace in an election year.

The Executive Director of Media Foundation for West Africa, Suleimana Briamah in an interview with the media, he emphasized the importance of reflecting on and improving democratic practices in the face of challenges such as hate speech and disinformation.

He identified several factors contributing to the problem in Ghana, including a polarized political environment and a highly partisan media landscape.

According to him, media personalities should be circumspect in their reportage and desist from allowing hateful messages in their field of work as we head to the polls in December.

Board member of Ghana Peace Council (NPC) ,Mrs.Joana Opare emphasized the urgent need to combat hate speech and promote peace ahead of Ghana’s upcoming December elections.
