Popular Ghanaian rapper Medikal has addressed his recent comments about his 2021 arrest, where he accused the NPP of embarrassing and unlawfully jailing him. Medikal clarified that the firearm in question was licensed and registered by the police.
“I didn’t accuse anyone, I never stole from anyone, and I wasn’t brandishing anything in public. I was at home, within my own walls. It’s not like I was chasing someone with it,” Medikal explained.
He further stressed that the act of brandishing a weapon does not apply to someone taking a picture of a legally licensed firearm in their own home.
“Brandishing isn’t when you are in your house and you take pictures of something that has been licensed and registered by the police themselves,” he emphasized.
Describing his arrest and imprisonment as both inhumane and unjust, Medikal said, “I was put in jail. It was inhumane. It wasn’t right.”
In October 2021, Medikal was arrested after posting a video on Snapchat showing himself holding a Ruger 9mm handgun while seated in his car. The video quickly went viral, prompting the police to arrest him on October 21, 2021. He was charged the following day and remanded in custody for five days.
