Mawrehene of Akuapem’s Property Demolished by Illegal Landguards and Military Officers

The property of Nana Adjiri Aggrey, the Mawrehene of Akuapem, has been demolished by a group of illegal landguards and military officers. The property, which consisted of an 8-bedroom building and 40 shops, was destroyed under questionable circumstances, leaving the traditional leader and his family in a state of distress.

According to Nana Adjiri Aggrey, the demolition was carried out on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at Trassco East Legon, despite a resolved legal dispute. The Mawrehene claimed that the property was purchased in 2000 and had been the subject of a legal struggle against the late BB Boakye, who passed away in 2010. However, the dispute was resolved in 2023, and the property was rightfully owned by Nana Adjiri Aggrey.

The Mawrehene’s wife, Victoria Davies, recounted the events of the demolition, stating that she stopped the destruction when she noticed the excavators working and waited for the police to arrive. However, the demolition crew claimed they were carrying out an operation at the request of a man named Dawson, who has supposedly been involved in previous operations nearby.

This incident has raised serious concerns about the rule of law in Ghana and the involvement of military officers in illegal activities. Nana Adjiri Aggrey has called on President Akufo-Addo, the Chief Justice, and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to intervene in the matter and ensure that justice is served.

The demolition of the Mawrehene’s property is a clear violation of his rights and a disregard for the legal system. The use of military officers to carry out the demolition is particularly alarming, as it suggests a level of complicity and corruption at the highest levels.

As the authorities investigate this incident, it is essential that they take swift and decisive action to hold those responsible accountable. The people of Ghana deserve to know that their leaders are committed to upholding the law and protecting the rights of citizens.
