Popular Ghanaian actress Martha Ankomah has refuted claims that her colleague, Kwadwo Nkansah, also known as LilWin, has sought an out-of-court settlement in a defamation case. In an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb Entertainment on August 1, 2024, Ankomah clarified that no such proposal has been made by LilWin or his legal team.
Contrary to reports by GhOne News, which suggested that the Kumawood actor had informed an Accra High Court of his intent to settle the matter amicably, Ankomah asserted that the case remains active in court. “It is not true, LilWin has never approached me for an out-of-court settlement. The case is still in court. He hasn’t even approached me personally; he has only sent people to come and talk to me,” she stated.
Ankomah also confirmed that LilWin has not attended any court proceedings since the case began. However, she expressed her willingness to drop the lawsuit if LilWin publicly apologizes for his statements. “If he does the right thing, why not? I am a Christian; I am ready to forgive. He came out to insult me publicly, so it is only fair that he comes back out to retract and apologize for his statements,” she said.
Background
The legal dispute arose after Martha Ankomah filed a defamation lawsuit against LilWin, following his disparaging remarks about her in a viral video. Ankomah claimed that LilWin’s statements harmed her reputation and that of the textile brand GTP. The lawsuit seeks GH¢5 million in damages, including compensatory and aggravated damages, as well as an apology, a retraction, and an injunction against further defamatory statements.
The controversy began when LilWin responded to Ankomah’s comments on Accra FM, where she had expressed interest in collaborating with Kumawood actors due to their compelling storylines. LilWin responded with a series of insults in a video, prompting Ankomah to take legal action.
