Former President John Dramani Mahama has made a bold promise to nursing trainees in Ghana: automatic posting to secure jobs after graduation if he’s re-elected. During his tour of the Ahafo Region, Mahama met with students from Ntotronso Nursing and Midwifery College and assured them that his administration would prioritize job security, ensuring all nursing graduates are posted immediately after completing their training.
This move aims to reduce unemployment among healthcare professionals and improve access to quality healthcare in Ghana. But that’s not all – Mahama also vowed to complete all unfinished hospitals, creating more job opportunities for nurses.
As part of the NDC’s “Resetting Ghana 2024” manifesto, Mahama outlined key policies to transform the nursing and midwifery sector. These include:
– Restoring Automatic Employment: Ensuring nursing graduates are employed immediately after graduation
– Free Tuition: Offering free tuition for first-year public university students, including nursing trainees
– Degree and Specialist Programs: Introducing degree and specialist nursing programs at nursing colleges
Mahama also addressed Ghana’s declining cocoa production, attributing it to the current government’s mismanagement. He claimed that thriving state institutions during his tenure have collapsed due to widespread embezzlement, impacting cocoa production and sales.
These promises come as Mahama campaigns for the upcoming elections, seeking to address pressing issues in Ghana’s healthcare and economy.
