Mahama pledges tough reforms to revive Ghana after election victory

Ghana’s President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, has reaffirmed his commitment to implementing stringent policies aimed at driving the country’s recovery. Speaking after his victory was announced on Monday, December 9, Mahama highlighted the necessity of these decisive actions during his upcoming four-year term, which he believes will rejuvenate the nation.

“In the next four years, we will introduce critical governance reforms and, at times, enforce tough measures to reset our nation and restore its position as the Black Star of Africa,” he stated.

Jean Mensa, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, declared Mahama the winner with 6,328,397 votes, while his closest contender, Dr. Bawumia, garnered 4,657,304 votes.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mahama’s party, celebrated a groundbreaking achievement by securing a parliamentary majority. Sammy Gyamfi, the NDC’s National Communications Officer, announced that the party had won 185 parliamentary seats.
