Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold is one of Real Madrid’s top transfer targets for 2025.
Los Blancos have been working on his signature for several months and according to multiple reliable sources, there is great optimism that the England defender will arrive at the Santiago Bernabeu as a free agent this summer.
However, the reliable Paul Joyce of the Times has claimed that Real Madrid have tried to sign Alexander-Arnold since the January transfer window.
In fact, the reigning Spanish and European champions have made a bid for the 26-year-old Reds with a view to bringing him in next month, given the lack of options at right-back following Dani Carvajal’s injury at the end of the season.
In January, Liverpool rejected Real Madrid’s bid for the defender because they did not want to lose their key player, especially with Arne Slott’s side in contention for the Premier League title. Negotiations never reached the stage where figures could be discussed, with Liverpool not offering to encourage Real.
The Reds are unwilling to enter into negotiations to sell Alexander-Arnold, despite the risk of losing him for free in six months. They are still hoping to convince him to sign a new contract and stay at the club.
Furthermore, another report by Ben Jacobs claims that, despite Liverpool rejecting Real Madrid’s offer, Alexander-Arnold himself has no intention of leaving Anfield in January and wants to finish the season at his boyhood club.
Real Madrid are now focused on signing the player on a free this summer, with the prospect of a pre-contract agreement on a four-year deal looking increasingly likely.
