Mr Emmanuel Ikpe Quacou, the Akatsi South Municipal Coordinating Director, has said discipline, keeping the environment clean, rejecting corruption, and working hard for national pride remained the four critical pillars of national progress.
“Reflect, Review, and Reset,” is not only relevant but imperative. This theme is not just a slogan; it is a powerful call to action. An invitation to look back at our journey, assess where we stand today, and commit to resetting our attitudes and actions for a better Ghana.”
Mr Ikpe Quacou made the remarks in a commemorative speech read on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama at Akatsi ARS Basic School premises after a general clean-up exercise on the occasion of Ghana’s 68th Independence Day celebration.
He said this year’s celebration in the Municipality was unique because it departed from the usual parade of school children to cleaning the entire Municipality.
“As we reflect, we must ask ourselves: Are we upholding the values that made our independence possible? Have we remained disciplined in our actions, in our governance, and our daily lives?
If we want to see Ghana progress, we must cultivate discipline in all aspects of our lives,” he stated.
Mr Ikpe-Quacou further indicated that the clean-up exercise was not just an event, but served as a reminder that keeping the environment clean remained a shared responsibility.
“We must change our attitudes towards cleanliness. If we truly love our country, we must show it by keeping our surroundings clean. A clean environment will enhance a healthy and productive nation. If we reset our attitudes towards sanitation, we will create a healthier, more beautiful, and echo-friendly Municipality and Ghana.”
He urged all to remain committed to practicing discipline in school, at work, and in society.
Mr Ikpe-Quacou also appealed to all to keep their environment clean, reject corruption in all forms and demand accountability, and work hard in their respective fields to contribute to national development.
“Ghana’s progress depends on each of us. If we play our roles as good citizens, we will see a transformed nation. Let us not wait for others to change. Let the change begin with us, today and every day,” he added.
Some participants the GNA engaged, expressed satisfaction with the well-organised exercise.
Mr Karim Umar Ayaana, the Akatsi South Director of Education, on his part, called for a continuous effort to ensure the cleaning of the entire Municipality.
The celebration, characterised by a free health screening exercise by officials from St Paul’s Hospital Limited was on the theme: “Reflect, Review and Reset.”
A total of five JHS and SHS students each from 20 Schools participated in the commemorative exercise together with residents, assembly members, government officials, and other stakeholders.
