The Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly (LekMA) has financially supported persons with disabilities (PWD) within the municipality.
An amount of GHC 1,300 and items such as deep freezers and water tanks were given to 33 disabled persons and their caregivers to support their businesses and families.
Madam Mary Eghan, the Head of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development of LekMA, noted that the department was responsible for the distribution of the disability fund and their related activities.

Madam Eghan stated that the support was three per cent of the common fund given to the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the country, adding that LekMA would continue to support them.
She said that although they sometimes faced financial difficulties that delayed the distribution of the funds, the assembly would support them the little way it could.
She urged them to make a conscious effort to judiciously use what is given to them for its intended purpose to reduce the poverty level, especially among PWDs in the municipality.
Mr Israel Adjetey Otchwenmah, the Ledzokuku Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), reiterated that the assembly was ensuring that the PWDs in the municipality were supported in any way they could through funds or some items to improve their livelihoods.
Mr Otchwenmah mentioned that the PWDs within the municipality have formed various groups that meet to support and encourage each other and appealed to civil society organisations (CSOs) and other philanthropic groups to collaborate with the assembly to support them both financially and medically.
He also urged the beneficiaries of the fund and caregivers not to misuse the funds but purposely use them based on their request and projects, as the assembly would be monitoring their progress and improvements of their various businesses.
Mr Benjamin Narteh Ayiku, the Member of Parliament (MP) of Ledzokuku, thanked the president for ensuring through the MCE that beneficiaries received their funds, as this would go a long way to improve the livelihood of PWDs and reduce poverty in the country.

The MP further mentioned that there were other plans and interventions from the presidency to support PWDs, especially children, in their education.
Urging the beneficiaries to put the funds to effective use to enable them to get more support from the government.
Mr Wisdom Agbenu, a beneficiary, appreciated the assembly for the support towards PWDs in the community and urged other beneficiaries and carergivers to use the funds given to them.
He again advised them to work hard to support themselves and families, as their conditions were not the end of their lives.
“Do not go to the roadside asking and begging for money, as people will look down on you; your disability is not your inability to work,” he advised.
