KT Hammond expresses disappointment over election defeat in Adansi Asokwa

KT Hammond, the outgoing Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, has expressed deep disappointment with his constituents after his defeat in the 2024 parliamentary elections. Hammond attributed his loss to voter apathy, particularly in areas where he had received assurances of support from local chiefs.

Reflecting on his defeat, Hammond stated, “I’ve worked hard for this constituency, and I thought that would be appreciated at the polls. But politics is full of surprises, and it’s clear that the people wanted a change.”

The veteran MP recounted his efforts to connect with constituents, including visiting remote areas he had never been to, even during his youth. Despite his efforts, he lamented that many residents refused to vote, citing demands for money as a major factor.

“What pains me the most is that in areas where I built roads and provided potable water, people still didn’t vote. Even chiefs who pledged their support didn’t deliver,” Hammond said, describing the situation as deeply upsetting.

The Electoral Commission declared Godwin Animli Dorgbadzi-Dorani of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as the winner, with 14,229 votes, compared to Hammond’s 13,275 votes.
