Kpone Traditional Council urges TDC to address Kpone-Tema boundary issues

The Kpone Traditional Council (KTC) has called on TDC Ghana Limited to urgently address the long-standing boundary issues between Kpone and the Tema Traditional Council.

Nii Tetteh Oglie II, the Chief of Nmlitsakpo, addressing the media at a press conference at the Kpone Traditional Council, stated that there were a series of boundary issues between the two areas which needed to be urgently addressed by the key stakeholders involved.

Nii Oglie said the press conference was organised to deal with some unwarranted verbal attacks by some folks alleged to have come from the Tema Traditional Area on the people of Kpone over a demarcated area known as Sega-Gonnor within the Kpone Traditional Area.

He said there was a need to correct any distorted historical facts, stating that the land in contention was the ancestral home for the people of Kpone in antiquity.

He stressed that the recent social media claims by some youths of Tema Newtown and the subsequent destruction of an erected wall on land built by the West African Gas Pipeline were a complete display of ignorance and disregard for law and order.

According to the chief, TDC Ghana Limited would be the best authority to help resolve the boundary issues between Kpone, Tema, and Prampram, as most of those lands fall under the TDC acquisition areas.

He further indicated that the TDC ordinance, citing Gold Coast Law, pages 288-301, did not place the Sega-Gonnor under Tema; hence, the people of Tema could not lay claim to the said location.

“The Sega-Gonnor remained our ancestral home, and no other group can take it away from the people of Kpone,” he noted.

Meanwhile, Nii Amarh Sompunu II, Tema Shipi and Stool Secretary of the Tema Traditional Council, has denied the involvement of the Tema youth in the destruction of any wall on the said land, saying that the people of Kpone might have based their judgement on mere assumptions.

The TDC, is, however, yet to respond to the issues.
