Keta: Sports fans share opinion on Black Stars victory over Chad

Sports fans of the senior national team, the Black Stars of Ghana, have shared diverging views about the team’s victory on Friday over their Chadian counterpart in the ongoing 2026 world cup qualifiers at Accra sports stadium.
Blacks Stars put up a spectacular performance by securing a five to zero resounding victory in the match’s fifth day of the qualifiers.
Mr Selasi Kpodo, a sports analyst at Keta, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, expressed excitement over the win and believed that the team would qualify to the next world cup, despite not making it to 2025 African Cup of Nation (AFCON) in Morocco later this year.
“For some time now, the Black Stars have failed to score more than three goals and l am very excited seeing the team scored five goals today, and l strongly believe Black Stars now have a formidable team for world qualification,” he said.
He commended the coach and the technical team for the Black Stars player selection and enhancing their courage, as well as providing them with the necessary psychological and physical support for the victory.
He said the Black Stars reminded Ghanaians of the old good days, where they performed impressively well in the AFCON and World Cup competitions and urged all other fans to rally support for the team to qualify for the world cup to be co-hosted by USA, Canada and Mexico.
“It is clear that this victory has put the Black Stars at the top of the Group one table with 12 points from five matches, we are left with five more games to go, the journey is long, the team need our maximum support.”
He said that the love for the team was palpably seen across the nation and the overwhelming crowd that were present at the Accra sports to cheer and support the team clearly signified a new chapter for the team’s spirit.
Mr Jude Sedo, another fan, said that despite the team’s convincing victory, some other sports enthusiasts were not impressed by the performance of the team which they described was of brilliant individuals but without teamwork cohesion.
He said that Chadian produced a team which was not able to win or draw in any of their previous matches and conceded more goals which indicated that they were a weaker side and winning over such team by 5 goals margin was not anything to celebrate about.
He said the biggest and crucial test for the team would be against Madagascar on Monday, March 24, and the rest of the qualifying matches to prove to all sporting lovers and Ghanaians that they could defend the flag of the nation in Africa and beyond.
Meanwhile, goals from Antione Semenyo, Inaki Williams, skipper Jordan Ayew, Mahamed Salisu and Ernest Nuamah, enabled the team to pick the three maximum points at the Accra sports stadium on Friday, March 21.
Black Stars have now topped the Group one standings with 12 points, Madagascar second with 10 points, while Comoros, Mali, Central Africa Republic and Chad accumulated nine, eight, four and zero points, respectively, from five matches played each in the first round of the qualifiers.
Ghana Black Stars will now focus and shift their attention to the next fixture against Madagascar on Monday, March 24, in Morocco.
