Residents of Keta in the Volta Region are hailing President John Dramani Mahama for a successful six month of governance after winning the 2024 general election.
The residents have expressed their appreciation for the president’s efforts in managing the economy and providing relief to the people.
Mr. Dela Doe, a business man at Tetevikope, a suburb of Keta, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said President Mahama’s economic policies have been well-received by many residents at Keta who believed that his administration has taken significant steps in stabilising the economy and reducing the cost of living.
“The President’s commitment to fiscal discipline and responsible governance has earned him the trust of many citizens who are expecting more from him,” he said.
He explained that one of the key areas where President Mahama has made a significant impact was in electricity tariff management while government has worked to ensure that electricity tariffs are reasonable and affordable for all Ghanaians though with some power outages challenges.
Mr. Doe said that President Mahama’s declaration of a day for National Prayer and Thanksgiving to seek divine guidance and intervention from God for the affairs of the nation was commendable.
“The National Day for Prayer and Thanksgiving has been supported by many Ghanaians who believe that it will help to bring the country together and promote unity and peace,” he said.
Mr. Emmanuel Kpey, a taxi driver at Keta, also expressed excitement about Mahama’s administration so far which scrapped the Electronic Levy, Emission Levy, Betting tax, among others, to alleviate the plight of many young citizens who were affected by the taxes.
He also applauded the government for the swift actions about fuel and LPG prices reduction that led to transport fare adjustment across the nation for the benefit of the general public, especially drivers and commuters.
Madam Edzordzinam Worname, a restaurant operator at Dzelukope, also thanked the government for the initiative to introduce distribution of sanitary pads to young girls’ students to prevent absenteeism during their various periods of ovulation.
Some residents who spoke to the GNA also thanked Mahama’s government for relief items and support for victims of the Salakope, Agavedzi and Amutsinu tidal waves while others also applauded the president for the plans to contract the Anlo- Afiadenyigba road which has been a major concern for residents of the area.
They believed the road, which has been in disrepair for many years, would be rehabilitated to boost economic activity and improve the living standards of people in the municipality.
They also welcomed the President’s directives for Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to declare their assets, which many believed would help to promote transparency and accountability in public office.
The residents of Keta have also expressed support for President Mahama’s call for the election of MMDCEs in subsequently years which would enable promote democracy and ensure that local government officials are accountable to the people.
Meanwhile, Mr. Anthony Dagadu, economist and governance expert rated President Mahama’s administration 60 per cent in his first six months.
He urged him, other Ministers and government officials to work beyond the limit to uplift the standard of the country in all aspects.
