KATH CEO pledges to tackle audit infractions, strengthen administrative systems

Dr Paa Kwesi Baidoo, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, has pledged to implement stringent measures to address audit infractions that led to the Hospital’s recent appearance before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament.

Dr Baidoo, who recently assumed office, said he inherited the issues cited in the audit report, but he was fully committed to resolving them and ensuring stronger administrative systems to prevent future lapses.

“I inherited all the infractions contained in the audit report laid before the committee, and as the current CEO, I am fully committed to rectifying them and instituting additional measures to prevent similar occurrences during my tenure,” he said.

He explained that since taking office, he has prioritised operational and system reforms, revenue optimisation, waste reduction, and cost control as part of efforts to enhance efficiency at the facility.

Dr Baidoo disclosed that he had issued firm directives to all directors and line managers to adhere strictly to statutory, regulatory, and audit requirements in their respective departments.

“I have made it clear that any Director or line manager whose actions or inactions lead to an infraction will be held personally accountable by my administration,” he warned.

He assured that his leadership would not only address the existing breaches but also implement robust internal controls to prevent their recurrence.

At its recent sitting, the Public Accounts Committee queried the management of KATH over several issues, including unearned salaries, payroll management, and asset registration irregularities.

Dr Baidoo reiterated his resolve to restore public confidence in the Hospital’s administrative and financial systems, emphasising that his goal was to build a more transparent and accountable institution.
