John Mahama Reiterates Need for Credible Voter Register

John Dramani Mahama, the presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has renewed his call for the Electoral Commission (EC) to ensure a credible voter register for a peaceful election. Speaking at the Yam Festival in Seikwa, Mahama emphasized the NDC’s commitment to peace but stressed that a defective voter register undermines free and fair elections.

Mahama reiterated that the NDC will not attempt to rig the election nor allow manipulation. He also echoed the party’s stance that the existing voter register is not credible enough to guarantee a fair election. This comes after the EC addressed initial challenges with the voter registration verification process via the shortcode _711_51#.

Traditional leaders, according to Osaberima Debra Agyei II, are agents of development, intimately aware of community challenges. However, they are often not consulted before project execution. The Chief urges politicians to recognize traditional leaders’ roles in development.

Meanwhile, Justina Owusu Banahene, Bono Regional Minister, challenges traditional leaders to unite for regional development. She notes that divisions among chiefs hinder progress, unlike in other areas where collaboration drives growth.

The Electoral Commission has addressed initial registration verification challenges and provides updates on the electoral process on their website.
