NDC Flagbearer John Mahama has renewed the party’s commitment to advancing Ghana’s creative industry by building a new national theatre in Kumasi. Speaking with creatives in Kumasi on Tuesday, November 13, Mahama reiterated the promise made in the NDC’s 2020 manifesto, emphasizing that if elected, the NDC will fulfill this pledge.

Mahama also highlighted plans to renovate Accra’s National Theatre, originally built with support from the Chinese government during Jerry Rawlings’ administration. He expressed concern about the theatre’s deteriorating condition, noting issues with outdated equipment, non-functional curtains, and a damaged stage, which hinder the venue’s ability to serve as a modern creative hub for artists.
“A lot of things are in bad shape at the theatre. The curtains cannot be drawn, the stage is in bad shape. It is time to rehabilitate the building to support the creative industry,” Mahama said, underscoring the NDC’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure for Ghana’s artistic community.
