Mr Ernest Yaw Anim, Member of Parliament (MP) for Kumawu, has donated items and a cash amount of GH¢150,000 to support 400 BECE candidates from the constituency, entering senior high schools this year.
The items, which included chop boxes, trunks and exercise books, form part of the MP’s continuous educational support initiative aimed at easing the financial burden on parents and encouraging students to pursue higher education.
The event, held at Kumawu, the district capital, attracted education authorities, assembly members, parents, teachers, and students, who hailed the MP for his generosity and commitment to the welfare of his constituents.
Mr Anim said his motivation stemmed from a deep belief that education remained the most powerful investment for community transformation.
He explained that his goal was to ensure that no child in Kumawu was left behind due to financial constraints, adding that the initiative was part of his broader vision to empower the youth through education.
“It is my fervent prayer that all BECE candidates in the Kumawu Constituency will continue their education to Senior High and Tertiary levels.
I am committed to supporting this vision to make sure it becomes a reality,” the MP stated.
According to Mr Anim, the gesture marked the third consecutive year he had embarked on such an exercise to support BECE candidates across the constituency.
He emphasised that education remained a top priority on his development agenda because it was the foundation for producing future leaders, professionals, and innovators, who could drive Kumawu’s growth.
He explained that while the school authorities initially presented a list of 225 candidates, further assessments revealed that many more students were in dire need of assistance.
The MP personally identified over 100 students from poor backgrounds, whose parents were unable to provide the necessary materials for their children’s secondary education.
To ensure inclusiveness, he extended the gesture to 50 additional candidates, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 400.
“Apart from the chop boxes, trunks, and exercise books, we added some cash so that parents can purchase other prospectus items required for their wards.
This is to ease the pressure on families as their children prepare to enter Senior High School,” Mr Anim explained.
He urged the beneficiaries to study hard and remain disciplined as they transition to the next level of their education, stressing that, the best way to show appreciation for the support was to excel academically and contribute meaningfully to Kumawu’s future.
“My vision is to see more engineers, doctors, nurses, teachers, and professors emerging from Kumawu.
We can only progress as a constituency when we equip our young people with the knowledge and skills to lead development,” he added.
Parents and beneficiaries could not hide their joy as they expressed heartfelt appreciation to the MP for his timely and thoughtful intervention.
Many described the donation as a great relief, noting that the cost of preparing their children for SHS has been a major challenge.
“Hon. Anim has truly shown leadership. At a time when things are financially tough, this support has come as a blessing. May God continue to bless him for remembering the needs of ordinary families,” a parent said with gratitude.
Some of the beneficiaries thanked the MP, promising to make him and the constituency proud through their academic performance.
“We are so thankful for this help. It means a lot to us, and we will make sure to learn hard and achieve our dreams,” one of the beneficiaries said cheerfully.
