International Day of the Girl Child observed in Tarkwa

The Golden Tree Foundation in collaboration with Inspirers and Advocates International, Non-profit Organizations, and the Women Ministry of the Church of Pentecost, Wassa Nsuta, have observed the International Day of the Girl Child in Tarkwa.
At a separate event, the organisers met female learners at the Saint Mary’s Catholic School and the Tarkwa Islamic School to promote gender equality and create a brighter future for girls in the country.
The theme for this year was, “The girl l am, the change l lead: Girls on the frontlines of crisis”.
Through interactive sessions, Madam Mawuena Atta and Madam Gloria Addisu Hasford from Golden Tree Foundation inspired the girls to build their confidence and pursue their dreams by learning and being discipline.

They reiterated that with a strong foundation in learning, discipline and leadership skills, the female learners would be the kind of leaders who would transform their communities and inspire others.
Explaining the history and intention behind the celebration, Madam Ethel Gbogboe, a project coordinator of Inspirers and Advocates International, said it was to address the challenges girls faced and promote their rights to education, health, and protection.
Mrs Agyeiwaa Yormesor, leader of the Women Ministry of the Church of Pentecost, Wassa Nsuta, urged the girls to stay connected to their maker, avoid pre-marital sex and remain focused on their objectives.
The organisers distributed stationery to the girls to aid their academic activities.
The International Day of the Girl Child is commemorated on October 11 to highlight issues confronting girls, promote the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) related to their development and urge the various stakeholders to act.
