Interior Minister Denies Allegations of Bribery

The Minister of Interior, Henry Quartey, has strongly denied allegations that he attempted to bribe opposition Members of Parliament (MPs) by offering them recruitment slots in the security services. The accusations were made by NDC National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia.

Asiedu Nketia claimed that Quartey offered NDC MPs recruitment slots to silence their opposition to the recruitment of 10,000 party foot soldiers into the police force. Quartey refuted this, stating that he only informed colleagues that the recruitment portals were open and suggested they inform their constituents to apply.

Quartey emphasized that his comments were a goodwill gesture, not an attempt to bribe or influence MPs. He questioned the use of the word “bribe” and clarified that his intention was to encourage all MPs to remind their constituents who applied in 2021 to get involved in the recruitment process.

Quartey stressed that the security services remain neutral and should not be filled with political affiliates. He stated that he had no intention to seek legal redress against Asiedu Nketia, urging the public to disregard the allegations and reaffirming his commitment to maintaining peace and security.
