IGP Leaked Tape: Parliament directs committee report to President

In a significant move, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has instructed the Clerk of Parliament to deliver a copy of an investigative report to the President. This report, compiled by an ad hoc committee, delves into a leaked tape that revealed a plot to remove the Inspector General of Police (IGP) from office.

The directive follows Parliament’s adoption of the committee’s findings, which, despite lacking the signature of its Chairman, Samuel Atta Akyea, highlighted serious misconduct by three senior police officers: COP Alex George Mensah, Supt. George Lysander Asare, and Supt. Emmanuel Eric Gyebi. The report indicated that their actions constituted a major offence under Police regulations and recommended sanctions in line with the Police disciplinary procedure.

Speaker Alban Bagbin, upon the adoption of the report, declared, “The report is accordingly adopted. I can only direct that the Clerk to Parliament should make available a copy of this report, which has just been adopted by the House, to His Excellency, the President, as Chairman of the Police Council for any further action he deems necessary.”
