Iago Aspas Signs Contract Extension with Celta Vigo

Celta Vigo icon Iago Aspas has signed a contract extension that will keep him at his beloved club until June 2026. The announcement was made via an emotional video broadcast on the pitch at Balaídos Stadium, where Aspas was surrounded by his wife Jennifer Rueda and their three children.

“Every corner of this stadium and every scream from the stands has accompanied me on this journey. Here I have lived unforgettable days, moments of joy, celebration and moments of pain that we overcome together. For me it is much more than football, it is much more than a club. “Celta is my life, it’s my home, it’s me.

They say nothing lasts forever, but what I feel for these colours I will always have in my heart,” said a visibly moved Aspas during the announcement.

Aspas rose through the ranks of the club’s academy and has become synonymous with Celta Vigo. Despite brief spells at Liverpool and Sevilla, where he basked in the glory of winning the Europa League in the 2014/15 season, it is at Celta that he has carved out his legacy as their all-time top scorer.

During the current La Liga season, the 37-year-old veteran has contributed significantly with six goals and three assists. Club president Marian Mourinho echoed the fans’ sentiments, saying: “It is a matter of pride for the club and for Celta fans to have one of the greatest emblems of Spanish football, a living Celta legend, with us for another year. ”

Celta Vigo are currently in 11th place in La Liga, with eight wins, three draws and six defeats in 18 matches. As La Liga enters its annual winter break, Celta’s next challenge will be against Real Racing Club in the round of 16 of the Copa Del Rey.
