‘’I will only accept election results if process is transparent and credible’’ – John Mahama

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has stated that his acceptance of the December 7 general election results will hinge on the process meeting high standards of transparency and credibility.

In an exclusive interview with the BBC, the former president underscored the importance of election integrity in safeguarding Ghana’s democracy and maintaining public confidence in the electoral process.

Mahama emphasized that he would reject results marred by irregularities such as ballot theft, voter intimidation, or the misuse of armed forces in civilian voting areas. Expressing concerns about potential misconduct, he said, “If, on election day, there is widespread ballot snatching, people being beaten, military intimidation, and thugs causing chaos, you expect me to accept that result? Acceptance will depend on the transparency and fairness of the process.”

His comments highlight the need for a peaceful and credible election as Ghanaians prepare to head to the polls. The NDC has consistently called for vigilance to prevent electoral malpractices and ensure that the will of the people is accurately reflected in the results.
