I have been a victim of online harassment – Mzbel

Ghanaian songstress Mzbel has expressed her distress over the rising issue of cyberbullying and the misuse of social media. In a candid interview on Accra FM, Mzbel shared that she has been a victim of online harassment and has previously taken legal action against bloggers and media personnel. However, she chose to keep these cases private due to their sensitive nature.

“I have sued media people before and taken a couple of people on, but it was not made public. They have learned their lessons and have repented. One is a journalist, and the rest are bloggers,” Mzbel revealed.

The “Awoso Me” hitmaker voiced her concerns about social media becoming a platform for destructive behavior, including character assassination and the spread of misinformation. She criticized online outlets for prioritizing clickbait over journalistic integrity and called for greater accountability online. Mzbel urged the government to enact stricter legislation to curb cyberbullying and create a safer online environment.

“I feel like a lot of people are taking advantage of social media to do wrong things. We are abusing social media. Irrespective of the calibre of people, netizens will find a way to disrespect someone… Social media has become like a weapon,” she stated.

Mzbel’s remarks highlight a growing concern among Ghanaian entertainers about the impact of cyberbullying, joining voices like Efia Odo and actress Lydia Forson, who have also spoken out about the emotional toll of online harassment.

Ooo Mzbel, what a controversial person, if you put yourself out there, expect people to talk about you.
