Former New Patriotic Party parliamentary hopeful, Hopeson Adorye, has pledged to ensure that Rev Victor Kusi Boateng, the secretary to the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral of Ghana, is prosecuted if the NPP loses power. During an interview on XYZ TV on August 8, 2024, Adorye expressed his determination to see the pastor jailed for alleged corrupt activities related to the construction of the National Cathedral.
Adorye, who has now joined the Movement for Change, expressed his frustration with Rev Kusi Boateng, especially after the pastor prophesied that the NPP would win the upcoming presidential election. “God does not talk to thieves,” Adorye remarked in Twi, urging the public to “hoot at” the pastor.
He added that after the election on December 7, should the NPP lose, he would partner with North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa to ensure Rev Kusi Boateng is brought to justice.
The controversy surrounding Rev Kusi Boateng began when Ablakwa, in his “Mother of all scandals” publication on January 16, 2023, accused the clergyman of using two different identities on official documents. Ablakwa also alleged that GH¢2.6 million was irregularly paid from the National Cathedral’s coffers to JNS Talent Centre, a company linked to Kusi Boateng.
In response, Rev Kusi Boateng welcomed an investigation by the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) and stated that he would seek redress for the defamatory statements made against him. He reiterated his commitment to the National Cathedral project and serving the country.
