Hearts of Oak drop to fifth after dropping points against Heart of Lions

Accra Hearts of Oak maintained their unbeaten five-game run after sharing spoils with Hearts of Lions in week five of the 2025/2026 Ghana Premier League (GPL) encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Phobians, who are currently fifth with nine points, have struggled in the final third this season, where they have scored two goals from five matches.
Their lack of attacking depth was exposed during their keenly contested encounter against Heart of Lions, who stayed second on the league log with 11 points.
In a match defined by discipline and defensive organisation, Hearts of Oak dominated possession with 54% of the ball and looked the more adventurous of the two sides.
Hearts of Oak striker Frank Abura Duku had some half chances to put his side in the lead but couldn’t convert the chances, to the frustration of the few home fans who were in attendance.
In fact, Heart of Lions were decent in possession and had some clear-cut opportunities to score but narrowly missed the target, managing four attempts in the game.
The draw sees both teams maintain their unbeaten starts to the season, underlining their solid early form.
Hearts of Oak would take encouragement from another clean sheet and their continued defensive strength, while Heart of Lions can be satisfied with securing a valuable away point.
Hearts of Oak face a stern test in their next encounter when they travel to Berekum to face Berekum Chelsea on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at the Golden City Park.
