Hassan Ayariga pledges to fight corruption, promises symbolic first night in prison

The All Peoples Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Hassan Ayariga, has vowed to make corruption a highly unattractive prospect if elected as Ghana’s next President.

Speaking at an event in Accra, Ayariga promised a relentless battle against corruption, emphasizing that those caught engaging in such practices would face the full force of the law.

In a bold and symbolic gesture, Ayariga declared that his first night as President would be spent in prison—a move aimed at demonstrating his zero tolerance for corruption and serving as a stark warning to potential offenders.

“I pledge on my honour that I shall never engage in corruption as President, a father, a young man, or in any capacity in Ghana,” he affirmed. “To emphasize my commitment, I will spend my first night in prison as a clear message that under my leadership, anyone caught in corruption will face severe consequences. Let us be serious.”

With less than three weeks to the December 7 general elections, political parties are ramping up their campaigns to win over the electorate. On election day, Ghanaians will choose a President and 275 Members of Parliament to steer the nation’s affairs for the next four years.

Political analysts widely regard the upcoming elections as a contest primarily between two major candidates: Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), currently serving as Vice President, and former President John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
