In a surprising turn of events, the Appeals Board of the University of Ghana has overturned the disqualification of musician Maradona Adjei Yeboah, popularly known as Guru, from the Student Representative Council (SRC) presidential race.
Guru was initially disqualified due to a residency requirement issue, but the Appeals Board has now reinstated him and another candidate, Emmanuel Owusu Amponsah, in the election.

Following the Appeals Board’s decision, the Vice Dean of Student Affairs has directed the Electoral Commission to include Guru and Amponsah in the list of candidates. A balloting session is scheduled for September 16, 2024, between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon, to determine the candidates’ ballot positions.
The voting is expected to take place on or before September 18, 2024, and the University of Ghana’s Computer Services will make the necessary arrangements.
Guru’s reinstatement comes after he filed a petition against the SRC Electoral Commission last month, challenging his disqualification. Despite an initial ruling upholding the disqualification, the Appeals Board’s decision has given Guru a second chance in the SRC presidential race.
