GRAY NETWORK sensitises young people on advocacy, inclusive governance

Gender and Reproductive Advocacy Youth (GRAY) NETWORK, a youth-led non-profit organisation, has held a sensitisation workshop for young participants including women and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), in Hohoe.

It aimed at amplifying the voices of marginalised groups in national decision-making processes and equipping participants with skills on leadership, advocacy, and social mobilisation with a focus on gender and disability inclusion.

Ms Favour Okorie, a Project Lead, GRAY NETWORK, said young people formed part of the country’s population, yet they were the least group involved in leadership and decision-making in local governance.

She said the workshop was to include everybody in leadership, especially women and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).

Ms Okorie said the youth, women, visually impaired, deaf, and dumb needed to be part of decision making and progressive leadership, hence, it was important for them to be sensitised to have the voice that would be heard.

She said being young or disadvantaged do not mean that one should be excluded in decision-making processes that would go a long way to affect those excluded hence “young girls, women, young people and the disabled being part of local governance should be encouraged.”

Ms Okorie said it was expected that participants would be part of decision-making and prepare them for leadership roles.

Participants expressed satisfaction and gratitude for the sensitisation and the empowerment for championing inclusive governance.

It was Funded by the High Commission of Canada to Ghana, Togo, and Sierra Leone.
