Mr Reginald Seshie, the Senior Staff Union Chairman of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), has commended staff of the Authority for working with dedication and commitment, ensuring that Ghana’s ports remain efficient.
Speaking at the 2025 Customer Service Week celebration of the Tema Port, Mr Seshie said since the commencement of the year, the staff have been very hard-working, which has been reflected in the GPHA’s service data.
“We realised that our staff are working very hard, and efficiency and excellence are being achieved in the service that they deliver,” he said.
Backing his assertion with statistics, he revealed that from January to August 2025, the Tema Port has handled 1,299,873 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of containers as compared to the same period in 2024, which is 1,053,037 TEUs handled.
He said that showed a variance of 246,836, representing a 23.44 percent growth, stressing that “this is very remarkable.”
He also revealed that as of Sunday, October 12, they realised that the Golden Jubilee Terminal (GJT) had only two containers to pick from the Meridian Ports Services (MPS) and four containers each at the reefer terminal and transit terminal.
“Gone are the days we always have plenty of backlogs; this shows how efficient our staff has become.”
He added that the GJT receipt for the month of August grew by 22.5 percent and delivery also grew by 2.06 percent, while the reefer terminal also saw 18.05 percent growth with 22.24 percent deliveries, with the transit terminal also recording growth of 15 percent and 13 percent, respectively, for receipt and deliveries.
He used the opportunity to appeal to management to look at the efficiency of the staff and to introduce incentives that would put a smile on their faces and energise them to do more.
