Brigadier General Paul Seidu Tanye Kulono, the Director-General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), has stated that the authority was ready to deepen its cordial relationship with the media.

Brigadier General Kulono said this when executives of the Tema Regional Branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) paid a courtesy call on him, commending the long-lasting cordial relationship between his outfit and the media.

He called for continued collaboration to advance the common goal of accurate information dissemination and public education.

He gave the assurance that the GPHA was willing to consider requests from the Association for training programmes aimed at boosting the professional capacity of journalists in maritime and port reportage.

The Director General of the GPHA also encouraged journalists to always crosscheck facts with the institution before publishing to ensure balanced and factual reporting.

Mr Michael Dewornu, the GJA Tema Regional Chairperson, who led the delegation, expressed the Association’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with GPHA, particularly around public education and accurate reportage on port and maritime industry issues.

Mr Dewornu acknowledged the important role of the media as partners of development and appealed to the management of GPHA, to support the association to roll out maritime and port capacity building programmes for journalists, to properly understand the sector and report accurately.

He stated that the Tema GJA was building a strong welfare system in addition to other initiatives to enhance their presence in the area.
