Mr. Ahmed Ibrahim, Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Muslim community to promote national unity and socio-economic progress.
Speaking at the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving to mark Republic Day, the Minister underscored the importance of faith-based partnerships in advancing Ghana’s development.
The event, held in partnership with the Muslim community, brought together President John Dramani Mahama, National Chief Imam Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, traditional leaders, Islamic scholars, and members of the diplomatic corps to reflect on Ghana’s journey since becoming a republic on July 1, 1960.
The programme featured prayers for national leadership, Quran recitations, and supplications led by renowned clerics Imam Mohammed Awal and Imam Faisal Hamid.
Mr. Ibrahim emphasized that nation-building extends beyond politics, requiring moral and spiritual commitment from both leaders and citizens.
“Our partnership with the Muslim community is vital in promoting ethical governance, social justice, and development initiatives rooted in faith,” he stated.
He commended President Mahama for fostering interfaith harmony and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to engaging Islamic institutions on key national issues.
Calling for unity, Mr. Ibrahim urged Ghanaians to reject division and corruption, and instead uphold fairness, accountability, and self-reflection.
He also lauded Sheikh Sharubutu and other Muslim leaders for their continued efforts in promoting peace, and thanked youth groups, women’s associations, and the event planning committee for their contributions to the programme’s success.
Encouraging continuous prayer for the nation’s prosperity, Mr. Ibrahim remarked, “The strength of the Republic lies in upholding our shared values of integrity, accountability, and service to humanity.”
He further announced plans for structured dialogue with Muslim stakeholders to align faith-based initiatives with national development goals.
The Minister expressed confidence in Ghana’s future and called on citizens to remain committed to the country’s founding ideals.
“May Allah bless our homeland, Ghana, and guide our leaders as we strive for a brighter future,” he said.
